Six Hundred Acre Wood SRS Poll Angora Goats is Australia’s only organic certified (to AS6000) mohair-producing farm as well as being Responsible Mohair Certified. Home to 200 Angora goats, every year the farm harvests an average of 4 kg/adult goat and 2-3kg/goat under 12 months old.

Our fleeces are sold raw to local fibre artists (they select the goat and watch it being shorn), and exported to South Africa, while some fleeces are retained for home processing as currently no scope exists to process large quantities in Australia.

Our principal focus is animal welfare according to the Five Domains of Animal Welfare and our genetic gain follows the work of Dr Jim Watts. We record data on every aspect of our goats from birth onwards. We breed for fleece density, fleece weight, low micron and low curvature, on healthy fit-for-purpose robust Angora goats who wander over bush and pasture on our six hundred acre home.

The goats are accompanied by 10 bantams and 3 alpaca guards, socialise with kangaroos every day, and ignore the black cockatoos and parrots that try to sneak their evening lupin rations.

We consistently achieve 15-18 micron first shearing and >150% kidding.
